RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Administers the Income Support program and ensures that policies are adhered to.
• When policy is not followed, it is the responsibility of the Case Workers to identify such
instances and correct them before assistance is issued.
• Maintain a full caseload of clients and perform all required duties to service the clients in
a professional manner and in the best interest of the clients.
• Assists colleagues assigned by the Manager, when other Case Workers are absent, to
ensure there is no interruption in Service Delivery.
• Formulates policy questions for the Manager of Income Support as required and is
prepared to seek the assistance of the Manager in difficult situations.
• Interviews Clients to ensure relevant information.
• Responsible for assisting in the completion of the individual client work plan as well as
the implementation of the work plan.
• Ensures the correctness of all cheque requisitions and recommends authorization of all
budget and decision forms for the approval of the Manager.
• Ability to work as part of the Income Support team and administer the Social
Assistance Program while working cooperatively with Integrated Family Services,
Community Wellness, Food Bank, and Kasohkowew Child Wellness Society within all
SCN Departments and entities.
• Assisting with mediation and resolving issues between clients and workers, and making
decisions as required within the limits of authority when assuming the Acting Director
role.
Education:
➔ Knowledge of Income Support policy
➔ University degree or diploma in social work, or two years minimum related experience
➔ Experience in administering First Nations programs and administering budgets
➔ Familiar with issues and factors affecting the community and an ability/awareness of the
community resources and agencies that can be accessed and referred to
➔ Knowledge of the Cree language and culture is an asset.
➔ Excellent communication skills, written and oral, and strong computer skills,
➔ Knowledge of database systems
